THE FUTURE OF SOCIAL MEDIA MARKETING: GOING INTO THE NEW YEAR PREPARED

As we reflect back on 2016 and look ahead to the new year there are a few things that could be said about the ever changing state of social media, specifically its effect on businesses.

Here are a few quick takeaways social media marketers should keep in mind:

Video Marketing:

Now is the time to get on video marketing if you haven’t already. Videos are at their peak, not only are more social media sites now equipped to play videos but studies show that customers are more responsive to it. The top four social media channels right now  are Facebook, Youtube, Instagram, and Snapchat- all of which are heavily reliant on video content.

There are several factors that hold marketers back from creating more video content. Many people believe that videos take a lot of time to create and edit, there is also a belief  that videos are and need to be expensive to produce. Live, real-time videos are also on the rise, Snapchat and Facebook live are easy and fun ways to engage with customers.

With that being said, being able to create quick, affordable, relatable video content will help you stand out from your competition and keep you ahead of the game when it comes to successful marketing.

The Reign of Facebook:

If you are unsure about what social media channel to focus on in 2017, keep your attention on Facebook. If you are thinking that Facebook is old and out of style you’re wrong, Facebook is still dominating the social media market and has no plans on going anywhere anytime soon. Studies show almost 91% of marketers invested in Facebook ads in the last year.

Also interestingly enough, Facebook video is top priority for marketers in 2017. Facebook live makes it quick and easy to stream videos to your followers. Overall, directing a budget towards Facebook, specifically ads or boosted posts  is a worthwhile marketing strategy.

Pay to Play on Social Media:

Advertising on social media will continue to rise with even more options for advertisers. More social media networks and apps are expanding their advertising offerings, Snapchat for example just started inserting ads in between users ‘stories.’ There is no escaping ads and no getting around the requirement for paid ads on your social media in order to amplify your content.

Mobile Friendly:

Mobile traffic now exceeds desktop traffic and we think this will only grow in 2017. While this fact shouldn’t be too surprising for most people, it is an important thing to keep in mind. Make sure Google knows you have a mobile friendly site and that your content and images are smartphone officiant. If you do not have your own app for your customers, make sure your website is accessible on their phone or you will be losing many potential customers and your brand will suffer.
